The Passage by Justin Cronin
3.0

Love/hate would be too strong a description, so I say I had a like/dislike relationship with this book. I wanted to read this book based on the orange cover and the promise of a sci fi/horror story, so I didn't realize just how much of a chosen one narrative this book/series was going to be. I started reading this book when I did because I wanted to see Justin Cronin at the National Book Festival, but I didn't have that much time to read all the books I wanted to before the festival, and since The Passage wasn't totally holding my attention, I was only like a third or less of the way through it before the festival arrived. I decided to see his talk anyway and I'm glad I did because Justin Cronin was one of the most engaging speakers I saw, and his stories about writing the book totally recharged my excitement to read more of it. The experience of reading the book continued through many ups and downs as I progressed from there. I realized at some point that whenever the characters were traveling I lost interest until almost exactly when they got to wherever their next destination was, which is something I guess. I'm definitely going to read the next one because I very much want to know how it all turns out, and will just hope the eye rolling will be at a minimum.
