After the Flood
by Kassandra Montag
This is a beautiful book! One of the best dystopian set in the future books I've read!
This post-apocalyptic world is now mostly filled with water and most people live on boats. They make port (as few and far as they are between) to trade in what goods they have. Some are looking to set up new places to live and some are acting like pirates- pillaging and taking from anyone they encounter.
Our main character, Myra and her youngest daughter Pearl have been on their own for a long time. Myra is on the search for her older daughter who her husband ran off with when the floods started to come. They save a man, Daniel, who's boat was overthrown and then they find a big ship with a crew that become like family.
She gets the crew to decide on heading north against dangers from the floods and people when she hears her older daughter might be in a colony there.
I loved Myra and Pearl. Pearl has only known life in the floods and is plenty resourceful. Myra slowly finds herself and what she's capable of during the course of the story. Myra is a good mother.
Good debut and looking forward to more by this author!
