frasersimons 's review for:
The Fifth Season
by N.K. Jemisin
Unique format, original world building, subversion of tropes, inclusion of a lot of different identities (including trans)—all make this a really great read. The perspective changes initially really annoyed me, especially with the narrator referring to you all the time, as though you were that character.
All of that came together in the end though, thankfully. It took longer than I would have liked to do so but they served a purpose and led to enough satisfaction that, in the end, it’s better for it, I think. Lots of cool reveals and I liked the ending a lot. Will def take up the next book.
