I don’t mean to pick on a well regarded older book, but if you name a book after a dog, it needs to really be about the dog.

The book is a horrifically sad book about the child of a sharecropper, there happens to be a dog in it.

I wonder how many kids over the years read Shiloh and thought “oh sweet, Sounder, another dog book!” Only to be blindsided.
