Warum ich nicht länger mit Weißen über Hautfarbe spreche
by Reni Eddo-Lodge
this book is defiantly filled with information and facts that the white historians and general media likes to not talk about!
it’s a book that informs on many different topics:
- it talks in general about the different of life and living expectations between white people and people of color
- historic facts (great britain focused!) that nobody teaches or talks about otherwise like all those soldiers of color that are never mentioned but fought in both world wars but where never given the freedom they had been promised for it.
- “studies” that were done with the whole purpose of showing that anyone beside white people lack in everything from health to smarts let alone looks (which was just such a rage moment for me in itself! not that i didn’t already that those things were done but the amount of times they where done and used as if they were actual facts! based studies with the end result in mind and treaded as if they were completely unbiased and simply factual!)
- the overall racism behavior of how people see the color of your skin and decide your worth (or lack of it)
- how white people need to learn to see their privilege to learn to stop excluding others from also receiving that privilege
and by that its meant that everyone regardless of skin color should be treated as a human being and have basic human rights!
also that white people need to work on making sure that people of color see themselves represented just as much as the white person does everyday!
in ads! on tv! in book! in movies!
we all need to point out “look another tv show with a complete white cast for no reason! why is that?”
sure that’s not the solution.
but it might be one of many steps into the right direction we all need to make!
now the only reason that this book is 4 and not 5 stars is that it’s extremely overstuffed with information.
which is good. but also makes it a very dense read.
i would recommend reading this book as one would read short stories or essays! one chapter/ section, taking a break, think about what you read and learned and come back to it later!
that way this book is actually giving you a lot of information in regard to especially british racism!
