Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. But this sequel just really outdid itself. I love the characters, the plot, the setting, the cool ass magic, and the complexity of it all. It was such a solid and entertaining fantasy book, coming from someone who’s not typically the biggest fan of fantasy. This series is criminally underrated.
Odessa’s narration is on par with Katniss Everdeen’s, in the way of how enjoyable it is to be in her head 24/7. I wasn’t so sure about the relationship with Meredy is RotF or Meredy as a character, but she grew on me. Simeon, Danial, Jax, and Valoria are phenomenally written side characters and I love them. I loved Evander and Karston, too. The magic is so cool. Everything about this book is so cool. And talk about queer rep omg. There’s like one straight couple in this book lol.
