Okay, I need to talk about how seriously f’ed up and great this book is. Up until a little over half-way they do not really explain what unwinding is, but it is easy enough to Guess. And it's completely disgusting. How it comes about is explained in the book, and the thing is, I can totally see something like that happening (not the unwinding of kids, rather the, outrageous middle ground becoming law) in our world today.

Connor is a troubled kid. He gets into fights at school, and has a not too great attitude. Risa is a great piano player, but she is not the best in the state home. Lev is a tithe. He was chosen at or before birth. What do they have in common, they are all scheduled to be unwound. It’s a process of separating a kid and making them “different” but still whole. While it’s not intentioned they band together, to hide from the Juvey-cops who will make sure they get unwound.

This story is a roller coaster with so many ideas to talk about and consider their impact on our lives. A great example is Storking, and what are its good and bad prospects. How can something like that become a law. How does a civil war result in punishment for children who are not even born yet.

This story is amazing in it’s complexity, but also in its simplicity. The story is nowhere near done and I need all the pieces. I need them now, and I need someone to discuss our modern society and how close we are to the ideas set forth in this book. I am both in love and scared of this further. Not quite dystopian, but not complete fantasy either.
