A Place for Us
by Fatima Farheen Mirza
All the stars for a book that almost everyone can related to.
In A Place for Us we follow the journey of a family of five who have gathered for the oldest daughter's wedding. What should be the happiest day of Hadia's life is slightly overshadowed by the cracks in the family's foundation. We know Amar, the only son and youngest of the three, has been estranged from his family for some time. This book takes us on the journey which led to this moment.
Parts 1 and 2 flip back between Layla (the mother), Hadia, and Amar's perspectives. We see different parts of their life that have impacted them then and even now years later. Most of the book sits here and keep in mind the timeline jumps around a lot. It can be a lot to keep up with.
Parts 3 and 4 is honestly what made the book for me. These two sections bring everything to where we are now. Part 4 took me by surprise and was just so well done (as was the rest of the book). It wrapped up everything so perfectly and made all the feels come back over and over and over.
Everyone can relate to this book due to the depth of the family. Everyone as family and family is difficult. And this family is no different. Beautifully written and just truly well done. Blows my mind that this is a debut novel. I cannot wait to see what Fatima Farheen Mirza brings us in the future.
