Cloud Atlas
by David Mitchell
Slow, disjointed and pointless.
After finishing 500 pages, you shouldn’t still be wondering why you bothered reading a book. The snippets we saw of various lives through time was interesting at points, but ultimately the fragmented nature was merely disruptive and made the novel harder to understand.
Reading this made me feel stupid - why didn’t I get it? I felt like I was the only person who didn’t understand. Thankfully the rest of my book club had no clue either. I wish the Sonmi and valley stories were the only two viewpoints. For me, those were the only consistently interesting narratives. Each time those ended I was left wanting more.
But ultimately, this book was disappointing. I honestly wish I could get back the time I wasted reading this one.
