I've read this book twice in a matter of months and it made me cry both times, I'm not a big cryer when it comes to fiction, so when a book touches me that much it's worth noting.

This is definitely one of my favourite books I've read in the last few years, and while it's very sad and heavy, it's also very hopeful and optimistic in a lot of ways. I love short stories but this was my first time reading a book that's made up of short stories yet has a cohesive storyline from the beginning to the end. I think it worked really well.

The way this book looks at societies ways of dealing with death and grief, and how that would change if it started happening on a larger scale is really interesting, and I believe mostly correct. It also has some interesting commentary on capitalism.

I think my favourite thing about this book is the way you can really feel the longing for connection, community, and a sense of family in every story but each time it was portrayed very differently.

You can listen to mine and Caleb's podcast on this book anywhere you listen to podcasts- look for the novice elitists film podcast- June 6 2022. Spotify link below.
