A Wizard of Earthsea
by Ursula K. Le Guin
Hmm wouldn’t say I ~loved~ this, but it was an interesting read and I did appreciate the world-building. As she talks about in the afterword, it’s interesting to see how Le Guin both accommodated & pushed back against fantasy tropes/conventions of the time. There’s something about her idea of a hero’s journey that does push against the stereotypical white & male war-based narrative. Not perfect but inarguably influential and transformational for the genre.
