check TW/CW

Eh I liked it overall, it's really short and easy to read. I flew through it just this evening. I've read a few similar books lately and I'm a little over the whole asshole, overprotective, slightly insane, older brother figure type, but if that's your jam you will love this. 

I liked Nicky. I really felt for what he was going through with being gay and trying to figure himself out in such a hateful small town. Kade was just your usual asshole possessive MC who gets to sleep around while not letting anyone touch his obsession, aka the other MC. A little hypocritical thing I've noticed as a theme in these books that's irking me but I digress. He truly cared about Nicky and Nicky's happiness, and I am glad that Nicky had Kade in his corner. Also they were the least subtle secret romance I've ever read, always touching and such. And I wish they would stop calling each other "brother" all the time. 

The plot got wild at the end. I've read a good amount of crazy dark romances but I'm not sure why this one felt like excessive. They were all bad people for sure and deserved to be punished, but it was just a lot. And honestly that last chapter at the end from Preston's POV was not for me. I'm glad he got what was coming for him, but I didn't need to read the details. 

I can see why this is a popular read, and it has a lot of elements that make a good story. I just don't think it really worked for me right now. I am interested in the author's series she's writing so I might check that out!
