The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart
2.0

This was so boring that I kept forgetting I was reading it and picking up other books in the meantime. It didn't get interesting until well past the midpoint, and by then I was only still reading because it's for a book club.

All of the characters felt very flat, and I think it's because none of them has anyone to really on. Of the five viewpoints (Lin, Jovis, Phalue, Ramani, Sand) none of them have any friends, so every single scene is a monologue. They never bounce ideas off of other people, for example, and it feels like not one of them has the ability to behave like a normal human.

I really wanted to like this. There is bone magic and a cute sea serpent! But I can't be bothered to finish the series.
