The Lies of Locke Lamora
by Scott Lynch
Oof. This book is ... holy cow.
I think this is my first experience with grimdark. And let me start off by saying that I’m not a fan.
Obviously, I can’t judge an entire sub genre by one book, but from my understanding of grimdark, they are gritty and grisly. This book was so much so that I had to skim entire pages to get past certain scenes.
That being said, I enjoyed this. It’s got a good adventure to it, good pacing and tension. There’s a lot of good sarcasm in here that I appreciated, good quips and one liners. And the book really kept me hooked - even though my overactive sense of empathy required me to take frequent breaks.
I need a rest from this series, but I’ll probably maybe continue after a little time.
