Similar to Winter's Orbit, Ocean's Echo is marketed as a sci-fi romance novel but is really a space opera with a touch of romance. The relationship here is even less centre stage than WO, with the characters only occasionally showing their feelings for each other. That works for me personally as I am much more interested in the plot and in friendship and family relationships than in romance, but for anyone specifically looking for a romance book this may prove disappointing. 

The book starts very strong. I loved the first half and was really hoping that Ocean's Echo would turn out to be a new favourite. Sadly this didn't happen and the second half of the book is somewhat of a downturn in quality, especially the ending. I enjoyed the book and sped through it very quickly, but I wish the ending were stronger. 

Overall a book I do recommend, and I plan to read more from Everina Maxwell. Hopefully with time she may produce a book I will absolutely adore.
