This was such a fun story, full of new and interesting characters and plots while still harking back to the original story well. I'm completely intrigued by her twist on the Jinn as compared to the benevolent genie from the Aladdin movie I grew up with and definitely want to know more about them and what they're like, especially in relation to others of their kind. I also loved her use of Gifts and how well they were woven into the everyday lives of the characters who had them, using them in place of sorcery or other types of magic that are more common in the original stories and their retellings. And Rena! She was such a unique character and, despite our spending so little time with her in this book, I can't wait to read more about her in the next one.
