Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters
4.0

This is not Trans 101 - there is advanced trans humor and discourse in this novel. I really enjoyed the writing, time switches and character work. The discussions and critiques of gender, especially femininity, were nuanced and interesting. I actually somewhat agreed with Reese's ideas about women and violence. Obviously, there are some controversial statements in this book, I think they were done well. As Peters says herself, it's very much a book written for trans people (specifically, trans women). I still found this pretty relatable.

The only thing I was put off by were the points about race, they were pretty shallow and forced. Sometimes the way Reese and Ames talked about Katrina's pregnancy, and how they used her body, were uncomfortable.
