A Colony in a Nation
by Chris Hayes
I fought the urge to rate this 5 stars, questioning whether I was only wowed by the white-guy take on a lot of information that has already been analyzed by other authors. But I think this book delivers a unique framing on how the American obsession with “order” (more so than “law,” despite what we want to believe about ourselves) has fundamentally shaped the Nation/Colony dichotomy of our communities since this nation *was* a colony, and how white fear sustains it. The anecdotes Chris shares also make it a funny and chilling read.
