"Up on the Roof and Other Stories" is a great collection of short stories ranging from about 8-12 pages long each. You can enjoy one at a time or several at once. Most of these stories are great examples of real life that many people will be able to identify with, and quite a few are infused with wonderful bits of humor. There are stories for everyone's tastes here. Since there are a lot, I'll highlight a handful.

"Up on the Roof" was definitely my favorite out of the bunch, and is fittingly the title of this collection. Brian's Pop climbs onto the roof to talk to God in this cute, humorous story. The dialogue is brilliantly funny and the characters are believable. I enjoyed it very much!

The Amulet- Greta drags her uptight boyfriend to a flea market where she is on a hunt for an amulet. Judy Ann Davis' writing is vivid, allowing me to picture the flea market, hear and even smell it. I definitely have felt the urge to buy something that was too expensive but spoke to my soul. And I think other's can relate, too.

The Wedding- Katherine's step-father is getting married and he has invited her, her bother, and her mother (his ex-wife)! I couldn't have read this story at a more perfect time. My brother is getting married in a few days and countless people who despise each other are forced to be there...together. The ending of "The Wedding" is great!

Computer Junkie- Rita's and Jane's husbands are computer junkies in this silly and yet believable account of what happens when a hobby gets out of control.

Rocking the Boat- This is a cute story about two couples who go on a fishing trip when the girls set out to prove that women can have similar interests to men. I couldn't help but laugh at the craziness that ensues. If you enjoy fishing, this is a fun one.

Flight of the Frenzied Housewife- Marial decides to get a job when she becomes frustrated with being a housewife. Anyone who has had to re-enter the work force, or even look for a new job, will be able to relate to this tale.

Best Friends- This story is about how two people can grow apart when they're pursing a career and different lives. There's also a funny part about a lizard.

Temporary Mom- Willa's step-daughters move in with her and their father for a month to finish the school year, and things get crazy. I enjoyed this lighthearted story, and could resist smiling at the end.

Overall, if you enjoy short and sweet stories, I recommend this collection.
