Not so much with this one. It's a sort of mix between Maisie Dobbs and No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. But it just doesn't quite work. Jade doesn't have the charm of Maisie. The mystery was weak. The explanation weaker. The shifts to the killer's perspective were jarring. And there was something not quite right about the depiction of post WWI Africa.

And seriously, how many times did we have to hear about Jade's aching knee?
