Bad Love by Maame Blue
emotional hopeful medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

I finished reading Bad Love by Maame Blue last night and it was so good! Definitely one of my highlights of the Jacaranda Twenty in 2020 series so far, I only have three left to read. It’s a love story which very much highlights the ups and downs of falling in love as a young (19-25) person. It’s messy and yes there is often a lack of communication, but that’s the way life goes sometimes, right? I also loved the other aspects, navigating your 20s, finding something you’re passionate about, figuring out how to be a functioning adult and wondering if you’ll just feel like you’re pretending forever. I haven’t decided yet whether I was satisfied with the ending.
.
The writing felt very assured, and I enjoyed Ekuah’s voice a lot! There was also a secondary queer storyline to do with coming to terms with your sexuality after a longterm relationship which very much resonated with me at this point in my life (even though the characters were a lot older than me). The way it was handled was lovely, the support the characters had for one another was wonderful. Petition for the next book by Blue to be solely about these characters!

If you love millennial love stories in all their messy glory, then you need to read this book! Plus, how gorgeous is this cover?
