Overview

Kate Mosse, the author and founder of the Women's Prize for Fiction chose some of her favourite non-fiction books by women for an article in The Times.

I loved the ones I've already read and a couple more were on my TBR so thought it might be good to try the others too.

The Women’s Prize Trust is launching the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction — a sister prize to the renowned Women’s Prize for Fiction — to celebrate, amplify and honour inspirational and groundbreaking narrative non-fiction, and we are seeking partners to join our family of prize sponsors (for details see womensprizeforfiction.co.uk). In some ways, this is a golden age for women writing non-fiction, from natural science to biography, history to smart thinking, faith to politics, but more can be done to promote the work of women writers. So here are 15 extraordinary books, classic and contemporary, to whet your appetite.
