To celebrate my birthday, I've started a reading challenge to read some great books about mermaid and mermaid-like creatures from all around the world, and interact with other lovers of this creature that spans folklore across the world. A quick note: I do have two countries and two continents listed. I kept Africa and Asia broad as there are a vast amount of folklore on each of these continents and I didn't want to confine it to just a few. Mermaid is also the western term for underwater human-like creatures, making an IG graphic/naming a challenge poses some restrictions, and I wanted to make it as clear as possible with as few amount of words as possible. All that to say, this is a broad topic and I want everyone to have the opportunity to learn about folklore they may not have been previously aware of! Bonus points if the underwater dweller likes to lure sailors to their deaths. Also while the challenge is starting/focused on June, you have until the end of the year to complete it!
