Overview
Travelling the world is expensive. Books are not heheh. Welcome to the Reading the World Challenge. Inspired by Ann Morgan, who read her way through every country (an icon tbh), this challenge gives you a slice of global culture with every turn of the page.
You’ll also encounter the lyrical elegance of Persian poetry, where centuries-old traditions weave intricate tapestries of metaphor and emotion, and the witty, biting social commentaries of Nigerian literature, as seen in the works of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. From Japan’s introspective, nature-infused haikus to the epic, oral storytelling traditions of West Africa, every culture you explore offers a distinct flavour of narrative, shaped by its history, environment, and worldview.
Each page invites you to see the world through a new lens—whether it’s the existentialist characters of Russian realism, the vivid imagery of Italian neorealism, or the fascinating landscapes presented by Chinese science fiction. Buckle up, besties! <3 😎<3
How This Works:
- Start with any book from the list (the journey here is uniquely yours)
- No deadlines, no pressure - this is supposed to be fun. Unless you love deadlines, in which case, set yourself a reasonable one cuz Ann Morgan struggled to read all 197 books in a year, even though she read for approx. 4hrs a day (150pages).
- Reflect, discuss, and share your experiences with others. Post reviews of the books or cry about your feelings... that works too :D.
If you’ve ever dreamed of being 'that person' in a convo dropping lines like “Oh, I recently read this phenomenal Malian novella…” - this is your time. Let’s read the world, one book at a time, and feel extremely intellectual while doing it. 🌍😎
Happy reading!
