Overview
Do you find yourself reading mainly American or British authors? Do you shy away from translated works of literature? How many of these books from international authors have you read?

(Now, I personally think this list could be better, and I have made some changes and suggestions (bonus books). For example, there are several books by the same author, which to me feels excessive. I'd rather represent a country with different authors. Some countries, like Russia, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, are also overrepresented, while others are underrepresented. There are 195 countries in the world, meaning there shouldn't be more than 6 books from each country. Considering that some smaller countries have a smaller footprint in the World Literature, I can look pass that, but there are 5 continents (I count North and South America as one continent, as there are so few countries there. Even together there are fewer countries in Americas than other continents. There shouldn't be more or less than 200 books from each continent.)

The Devil to Pay in the Backlands
João Guimarães Rosa
Brazilian
48
The Stone Angel
Margaret Laurence
Canadian (Again, I'm sorry, Margaret, but reading Canadian authors just isn't "world literature" enough for USonian and UKian readers. So - let's take some Ecuadorian authors here: The Villagers by Jorge Icaza, Jawbone by Mónica Ojeda, The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina by Zoraida Córdova, The Spanish Daughter by Lorena Hughes, or Cockfight by María Fernanda Ampuero)
49
The Blind Assassin
Margaret Atwood
Canadian (I'm sorry, Margaret, but everyone and their cat has read your books. Maybe replace this with another American author, for example The Truce by Mario Benedetti, Cantoras by Caro De Robertis, Crocodile Tears by Mercedes Rosende, Byobu by Ida Vitale, or The Ship of Fools by Cristina Peri Rossi. All Uruguayan authors, not included in the original list.
