Overview
This reading list for H.P. Lovecraft's Mythos is based on intertextual references. Every book on the list contains work referenced by Lovecraft in the text of his Mythos fiction. Most books on the list (or the stories in them) are public domain. For each book, I've made a note containing either a link to where it can be read, or a list of its contents so you can search the stories yourself.
1. These short works by Edgar Allan Poe should be the first book on this list, but reading his complete works feels like overkill and there doesn't seem to be any other collections with all the relevant material:
- directly referenced in Lovecraft's fiction
- implicitly referenced in Lovecraft's fiction
6. These Dream Cycle stories by Lovecraft are missing from the listed collection:
7. These Cthulhu Mythos poems by Lovecraft are missing from the listed collection:
(bonus) Lovecraft mentions many more related works in his essay Supernatural Horror in Literature.
