Leonora Carrington (1917-2011) was a British author and painter who lived most of her life as a naturalized citizen of Mexico. She was one of the last surviving artists of the Surrealist movement of the 1930s, and is still renowned as one of the most important, influential, and identifiable artists of the era. She was also one of the spearheads of the women's liberation movement in Mexico in the 1970s.
