黒い騎士ベルナールらの訴えでパリ民衆の悲惨な状態を知ったオスカルは、王宮守護の近衛隊を辞め、衛兵隊を志願した。貧しくすさんだ荒らくれ男たちと格闘の末、心を開かせ部隊を掌握したオスカルに、父の将軍は結婚話を持ちかける。1789年5月5日。僧侶、貴族、平民からなる三部会が開かれた。国王、貴族と平民議員の対立は激化し、革命の色を帯びていく。7月13日、衛兵隊にパリ出動命令が下った。オスカルは長年影のように添い、愛し続けてくれたアンドレの想いを受け入れる。出動前夜、永遠の愛を誓い二人は結ばれた。
