Maybe just horror isnt for me but it didnt flow and i didnt connect really to it at all.
I love Bug! Very heartwarming but sad at times. Self discovery, grief and ghosts is A LOT for a kid during the summer before middle school but thought everything was done well. Also loved how Moira and Bug's friendship was rocky at times but stayed strong at the core.

A FANTASTIC middle grade novel exploring the very real experience of trans folks told in a simple, accessible way. Dysphoria intermixes with the ghost story and you discover alongside Bug that his mirror discomfort is not ghost related at all. Come along with Bug on his journey of joyful self discovery and acceptance in the wake of grief.
This book was not what I expected. I didn’t enjoy the ghost storyline; it is not my bag. But the kid on a journey of self-discovery was excellent and beautifully done. This is a great book for helping kids understand inclusion and compassion.
Because this book was recommended to me by another teacher, who recommends titles with similar themes, the biggest surprise to me was that there were so many interesting themes happening along the way. A great read for an adolescent, or for someone who might be looking to understand themselves or their child.
I loved how Lukoff wove together coming of age/self-discovery, grief, *and* a ghost story. Bug is a character I won't soon forget!
