I absolutely LOVED this! I loved the paranormal story that we get about the family home, and all the things that were happening there. I loved that we got to know Bug's uncle, and more about him through his eyes. I also truly adored watching Bug figure out who he is, and realizing that he's never quite been in the right body. It was a different take on a transgender coming out story, and it just worked SO WELL. Kyle Lukoff really did such a wonderful job with this! This belongs in middle grades classroom libraries for sure!

This would have been one of my all-time favorite books as a child, had I read it then. As it is, this is one of my all-time favorite children's books as an adult. In this #ownvoices story, Kyle Lukoff spins a beautiful tale of an 11 y/o who just lost their beloved uncle, navigating that grief along with questions of identity and belonging as middle school looms ahead of them. I loved everything about it.
