I actually liked this book. I have to say it wasn't nearly as good as The Duff though and the ending sucked. I was dying to know whether or not Ryder would forgive Sonny. Will there be a sequel that will answer this question?

I have to say I wasn't the biggest fan of Sonny. I liked Amy a lot better and could relate to her more. I couldn't imagine lying to my best friend and I know if I had a friend that lied to me as much as Sonny lied to Amy I would end that friendship. I don't like liars. I mean I know everybody lies at some point and I admit I'm guilty of it, but pretty much everything that came out of Sonny's mouth was a lie. I don't like people like that.

Anyways, this was a good short read and now I need to find another short read to finish my reading challenge. Time is a tickin!!

Such a cute and quick read! I'm never disappointed by kody keplingers books!!! Love the new characters, and having Wesley and Bianca back was an added bonus!!!

I really enjoyed this one! I didn't love it as much as The Duff, but it was still really enjoyable with great characters. The biggest reason I didn't love it as much was because I had a harder time relating to Sonny and how much she lied than I did relating to Bianca. Sonny was a great character but I started getting frustrated with her lies and felt like a lot of the lies during the second half were just there to add to the drama in the book rather than because they felt natural being there. I get the stuff with her mom and that moment near the end was probably the most emotional I felt toward Sonny but before that, it was hard to be on her side for much of the time. My favorite parts were seeing the characters from The Duff. (Characters from Keplinger's other books show up too, I just haven't read them.) Somehow, even though the book isn't about him at all, Wesley still managed to be my favorite character here. I really loved seeing him and Bianca again and loved that they felt exactly the same as they did in The Duff. Their relationship really is the best. I definitely recommend this book but don't think it has quite the same impact as The Duff. Besides the lesson in honesty, there wasn't as much depth to this one.

What I Thought...

Lying Out Loud is more about friendship than it is about romantic relationship and I loved that. Sonny and Amy are thick and thin BFF's and there are some issues that pop up that they have to work through and I love that not only does Lying Out Loud showcase a strong friendship but it shows that sometimes you have to work through things to keep that friendship going, it's not always easy.

The ending was so freaking good and perfect in the way that endings should be (not everything is tied up in a bow for the characters), but the rest of the book wasn't as spectacular. It was still good, but not quite as good as The DUFF. Sonny was quite frustrating at times (girl just tell the truth, ok) and that made it hard to like her (and probably why I didn't like this as much as The DUFF).

Overall if you enjoyed The DUFF I recommend you pick up Lying Out Loud.

2.5/5 Stars

I read this book in a matter of hours. So addictive. Sonny is such a train wreck but the mystery of her family life kept me wanting more info and the whole Ryder-Amy-Sonny thing was so amusing and frustrating that I just had to know how it would pan out. I love the Rush family. Bianca and Wesleys cameo was great too. Such a fast and fun read. Loved it.

How is it that I could finish reading this book only in two and a half goddamn hours, you may ask. Well, here's the truth, folks. I already know how the story is going to go down.

Wow! You might say. That's really cool, Maddy. Can you actually predict the whole book just like that? Oh well, that's really flattering, but I couldn't have done that without the help of the author herself, of course, for writing such a big fucking cliche. It's like reading a book written from a template!

Here's the formula.

A problematic teenage girl in denial who has no goals in life, no hobby, and practically just cruises through high school because she HAS to. Has no interest or anything she's passionate about + A boy. Much unique. Very Hipster. Hates people. Very Judgmental. An asshole but boy, who cares! He's kinda nice sometimes, kinda hot too. He likes Hipster-y Stuff but never actually admits that He is a hipster because that would defy the whole purpose of being a Hipster. Plus he wears glasses IRONICALLY. Or because it's FASHIONABLE. + Shy best friend, practically perfect. So smart. So Beautiful. Her life is so easy. Rich white girl who has everything and says things like "my family isn't loaded" but has porsche and a lexus. Because she's so NICE. So HUMBLE. Yeah right. + DRAMA + UNRESOLVED FAMILY CONFLICTS because they're just there to make this main character relatable but we don't need to solve that, right? we only care about how she's going to end up with this BOY & how this conflict could help boost her lost puppy image. I mean, she's kind of a big fat liar, but hey, she has issues, give her a break. + GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE from OLD FAMOUS ROM COMS. Yeah boi, bring in that stereo like John Cusack or punch the air with your fist or whatever because it's so ROMANTIC and will literally solve EVERY MAJOR PROBLEMS. NOT.

1/5 Stars. Would not recommend this shit show to anyone.

Additional note: you MIGHT like this book if you like dumb YA books with cutesy romance with no message to deliver at all except falling in love is so nice and complicated! But if you actually want to learn something and not waste two hours of your precious time just to read about a couple of teenagers doing dumb shit and flirting back and forth then you shouldn't probably bother with this one.
