Good book to start the new year with!

This book hit me right where it needed to ie in the fact that I’m queer and have religious trauma

It’s very charming and funny and an easy read but it suffers from “influencer book” syndrome. There’s a lot of filler here to increase the page length like two blank pages and a word search puzzle. I expected a little bit more from someone whose standup I enjoy and who has such a rich amount of life experiences to pull from.

A few of these essays made me laugh out loud while others struck me with their poignancy and depth. The fact that Zimmerman can balance these two so well is a real testament to his gifts as a writer. This was a great debut and it made me want to check out more of Zimmerman and his stand up.

The random lists in between chapters were my favorite part.
