Wow, this book surprised the heck out of me! I'm not sure what I was expecting, (actually, I don't think I was expecting anything at all!) but it sure wasn't this. And I loved it! The twists and turns, not to mention the steam, kept me riveted the whole way through. I loved how Bell, the protagonist, was playing a part all in the name of revenge - that was awesome! And the ending, ugh! I HAVE to get my hands on the next book, no question!

I thought about giving it 4-4.5 stars, but that last chapter (especially the last sentence)... WOW. Goosebumps!

I can't wait for the next one :)

Straight off the bat, the plot of "Deceptive Innocence" sounds like the TV show "Revenge". Our heroine Bell has bounced around from foster homes while her mother has withered away in prison for a murder she didn't commit. In the prologue Bell is channels all over her anger and energy into bringing down the family she believes is responsible for framing her mother. Four years after the prologue she's working at a dive bar she knows Lander Gable frequents in hopes of ferreting her way into his life and his family and bringing them down one by one. But that's where the similarities end. Where "Revenge" ends because it's on a major network "Deceptive Innocence" takes off in just how far the heroine is willing to go for justice and revenge.

There's a nod to "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "Wuthering Heights" and there's a running theme of forbidden love, temptation, and the blurred lines of revenge and lust. If you're never watched "Revenge" then this particular theme might seem brand new, but it's written in a way that if you are a viewer of the show it's very enjoyable.

Written in the first POV, we learn from Bell all of what she's planning to do and how she does it. You know from the beginning she's going to get her heart involved with Lander and it's only a matter of time she starts to question her motives and whether revenge is the best thing to avenge her mother. Her struggle to figure out how to disentangle her heart from her head is interesting.

I think my only complaint is that since it's not written in novel form, but a serialized novel it moves a little too quickly for me. From the first moment Bell and Lander hook up, she starts to lose control because of what feelings he evokes in her. For someone who has meticulously plotted revenge for 4 years, one look and one touch later she's questioning whether or not she can do this. She reinforces her revenge with flashbacks of what happened with her mother.

And there is collateral damge - Bell is willing to hurt innocent-ish people in order to get to a certain point of the game. Despite potentially maybe having sexual feelings for Lander, she reinforces her need to get revenge - there's a lot of anger running through her veins and she needs to maintain that level of hatred.

But you know it's only matter of time before things start to get dicey......

While the premise of Deceptive Innocence, Part One by Kyra Davis initially piqued my interest, I must admit that I had some doubts about it. I didn't think it would provide enough detailed information to truly captivate me as I delved into this upcoming novella series from Pocket Star Books. However, I quickly discovered that my skepticism was unfounded.

To my surprise, Kyra Davis managed to skillfully weave together a compelling narrative within the limited space of these 100 pages. The story was neither overwhelming with excessive details nor lacking in substance. Instead, just the right amount of information was unveiled, leaving the reader intrigued and eagerly anticipating the next installment of the series.

Moreover, it's worth mentioning the sizzling chemistry between the characters, Bell and Lander. Their intense connection is so palpable that it practically leaps off the pages, enveloping the reader in a wave of anticipation and excitement. Furthermore, each character possesses their own unique qualities and undergoes dynamic development throughout the story. Personally, I am eagerly awaiting the release of Deceptive Innocence, Part Two, which is scheduled to hit the shelves on February 17, 2014.

**RECEIVED BY NETGALLEY FOR HONEST REVIEW**

Bell is a woman with a past that drives her and Lander is the past she is trying to drive. This book was awesome and every time I started to read, I didn't want to put it down.
I really like Bell because she's trying to stay hard but she knows she's not completely succeeding. Lander is such a sexy badass and I really enjoyed reading about him. Together they are two of a kind!!

I'm so antsy to read the other two. Ahhhhh...... This book is for no one under 18 but for anyone that likes sex, mystery, suspense and sexiness. Between death, murder, imprisonment, drugs and hot sex, I know I'll be reading the rest of this series for sure. 5 stars have been granted ;)

I’m so glad I picked this book to read out of all the books I have on my NetGalley dashboard. I would classify Bellona-the heroine-as Nikkita on a mission that gets tangled in the games of love when she gets involved with the wrong man. Lander Gables-now there’s a name-is the youngest son of the man who Bellona believes framed her mother for a crime that he-the father-actually committed.

Part one of the story begins four years after Bellona’s mother commits suicide in prison, and understandably Bellona wants revenge on the people, the family she thinks put her mother in prison.

Deceptive Innocence was not the kind of story I expected from a chick lit author, I was reminded strongly of Gideon in Bared To You, but Lander is…softer where Gideon was all hard edges. The sex is mind blowing and intense, and the cliff hanger leaves you thinking that there is more to Lander Gables that we still have yet to meet.
Part one was more Bellona’s story which leaves me wondering and hoping that in part two that we will get to see and experience more of who Lander Gables really is.

And of course, there is more to Deceptive Innocence than just Bellona and Lander; the secondary characters really stood out to me. I really felt for Jessica Gable and I just wanted to box Travis Gable between the ears!

I just can’t wait for Part two, I may have to find a way to sneak a copy tonight. There is just no way I can sleep and not know what happens when Lander finds out who Bellona really is.

Wow -- another wonderful book from Kyra Davis. I really enjoy how Kyra can change her tone with each and every book she writes; one just has to read the Sophie Katz series, Just One Night, and this to see how drastically and masterfully she can change her tone (haven't read So Much For My Happy Ending yet but it is on my radar). I really enjoyed how we were drawn into Bell's world and her plan, as well as seeing the still human and vulnerable side of her with her encounters with Lander, who is an interesting case in and of himself. It was also good to see her encounters with the other members of the Gable family and see how easily she could don a different hat with each and every one of the. I sure am happy I waited until I had all three and was in the right mindset to read these because as with the Just One Night series it did leave on a cliffhanger! Starting the next one right now!

Ok, I'm hooked. What do I have to do to get part two. It started out ok, I mean the first chapter could use some work, I know it was full of history but it was boring. But that last chapter was cool as hell. The puzzles she figured out were a cute idea. I wonder what she will do now.
So as far as my review goes Bellona's mother takes the fall for a shady murder and it's up to Bell to get revenge for the wrongs done to her mother. Bell seduces Lander who is the youngest son of the family responsible for framing her mother. It's definitely a four star so far and I guess it's being brought out as a series. Thanks netgalley for getting me hooked on a read in exchange for my frank review.
