It was... An experience for sure. Such a rollercoaster. There are a LOT of extremely disturbing things in this book that didn't faze me at all, but would probably faze a lot of people. If you like books that give you the answer, this is not it. This book is basically what you make of it, completely up to your interpretation. I gave it 5 stars, personally, but I do see how all the tangents the characters (especially Johnny) go on could annoy someone. It really depends on what kind of a reader you are, basically. I would say, though, if you do decide to read it, don't skip Johnny's parts, you'll lose a lot of ways the text echoes off itself

Bijzonder boek waar ik ook zeer moeilijk een waarderingscijfer op kan plakken.
Het is origineel, zit ongelooflijk bizar in mekaar (echt letterlijk; sommige bladzijden zijn bijna leeg, zinnen staan op hun kop....) en laat zeker een stevige indruk achter. De centrale plotlijn is enorm spannend, akelig en beklijvend.
Maar het boek is bij momenten ook pretentieus (verschillende footnotes leggen plezante connecties maar er zitten ook zinloze tussen die redelijk irriteren) en ik had er op het einde ook echt wel genoeg van.
Een bizarre indeling is allemaal goed en wel, maar ik kreeg ook een beetje het gevoel dat de geschifte vorm misschien ook het feit verbergt dat het hele verhaal toch redelijk mager is.
Misschien kom ik hier nog op terug, want ik denk dat dit boek ook wat moet bezinken. Maar puur op basis van de originele vormgeving en algemeen akelig en ongemakkelijk gevoel (wat ik als iets positiefs beschouw!), geef ik
