Eddie Flynn is back for the fifth installment of this detective series by Steve Cavanagh. Two sister are on trial for murdering their father, Frank, the former mayor of NYC. The catch? They were both in the house the night he was murdered, they both say they are the innocent one, and they blame each other for the death of their father. Eddie Flynn has taken on the role of the defense attorney for Sofia while Kate Brooks is hired to defend Alexandra. Which sister is innocent and which is just plain evil?

I was hooked from the first line of this book, which has been difficult to do lately. This is a true detective book with evidence being presented, court hearings, witness testimony, etc. It is full of twists and turns that you won't see coming. I loved the "She" chapters that give us the POV of the killer without revealing who that is. This entire book was perfection for me up until the ending. I had a gut feeling I knew where this was going and who the killer was from the very beginning and I was hoping that I was wrong and the author would throw one last twist at me, but that didn't happen. I was completely right with my initial prediction which was just a little disappointing (I personally love being wrong and tricked). I still really enjoyed this one a lot and this series as a whole! I have only read books 4 and now 5, but am going to work my way through all of them (I personally don't think they need to be read in order and can be read as standalones).
The republication of Fifty Fifty is available now!

One murdered father and two estranged sisters are both arrested for it, each claiming that the other is the murderer. Eddie Flynn takes the job of defending one of the two sisters in a joint trial in which everyone is trying to pull a fast one. It’s a great trial and order story and I’m thankful that my family isn’t even close to this level of dysfunctional.

This was my first Steve Cavanagh book and it’s safe to say it definitely won’t be my last. Fifty-Fifty had a lot of elements that I really enjoyed. The first couple of chapters were high octane and immediately hooked me.

I love books that have multiple POVs and this one was cleverly done with the POV of the killer. Calling her “She” and keeping her details ambiguous helped build the suspense. I especially enjoyed all of the courtroom proceedings scenes. It was like watching an episode of Law and Order. While the “twist” was pretty predictable (there are only two suspects), the story overall was interesting.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book!

Eddie Flynn is facing a difficult case. Two sisters are in need of good lawyers. Both are on trial for the same murder. One is a master manipulator and one is innocent. Which one is the innocent one? Can the truth be discovered before both go to jail for the rest of their lives or the guilty one gets away?

Thank you Steve Cavanagh and Atria Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts here are mine and mine alone.

Steve Cavanagh does it again! I have loved every book he has written and this one was no different. The plot was engaging and suspenseful and I really enjoyed the multiple POVs. The pacing was excellent with creepy occurrences that took place throughout the book that kept me hooked.

You will definitely want to get your hands on this one ASAP!

Frank Avellino was found brutally murdered in his home by both of his daughters. The 911 calls were 1 minute apart, with both sisters accusing the other of his murder. Eddie Flynn is back to take the stand and defend his client. The only problem is determining which client he wants to take on. Eddie only defends the ones he believes are innocent, and this case is a close call through and through.

This is my second Eddie Flynn book, and reigns as my favorite. This story gripped me from the beginning with the 911 call transcripts. I felt like I knew where the story would go, but Steve had a few twists and turns I didn’t expect. The chapter that included multiple POVs had me on the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed reading the back stories of some of Eddie’s team that we met in Witness 8, since this one was set prior. I could not put this one down and it’s definitely one of my favorite series like this. And if you all like this, you KNOW how I feel about his other book Kill For Me, Kill For You!! A fave. Check that one out too.
