This is one of the most emotional, moving, inspiring, gut-wrenching, and important books I have read in many years. Sarah’s writing is captivating and heartbreaking, but her story is one that needs to be told. I pray for a world where we can one day all have the freedom to live our lives as who we are. Thank you, Congresswoman McBride for having the courage, strength, and power to speak out for all of us who so desperately need a leader in these dark times. And thank you, Andy, for your inspiration.

Most of what I want to say about this book is it has so much heart. Sarah's passion shines through every word of this book, from her experiences in activism and her desire to make a change in the world, to her love and care for her partner Andy throughout all stages of their lives. It was interesting to see Sarah's rise into politics, and the section about the passing of the sexual identity anti-discrimination bill in Delaware was riveting to follow, seeing how it passed through each chamber and all the work that had to go into securing the slim majority needed.
While this book is Sarah's memoir, it finds its footing in the love of Sarah's relationship with Andy. Both trans people working in politics and activism, the two both work together to help push progress forward, but also have such a lovely and beautiful life together outside of this. Andy's health struggles are a key aspect of the book, and I found myself near tears multiple times as the couple navigated some of the most difficult situations imageable, all while only in their late twenties/early thirties and only a few years into their relationship. This book is a wonderful tribute to Andy - his dedication, his energy, and his love for Sarah.
Sarah was also a lovely narrator - it was amazing then to hear all of this in her own voice.
